Publishes consumer and trade titles for enthusiasts of archery, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, motorcycles, and all-terrain vehicles. $15 million annual budget. Full-time staff of 60. Edited, proofed, and wrote editorial copy, including four monthly columns and numerous technical features, for two nationally distributed personal-watercraft enthusiast magazines (circulation: 300,000 and 67,000) and one trade journal (circulation: 6,000). Took photographs. Planned/analyzed $175,000 annual budget. Managed staff of four.

  • Oversaw all details of annual week-long vehicle-testing event attended by 150 people. Liaison with hotel, participants, and staff. Budget of $50,000.

  • Initiated and facilitated creation of year-long editorial calendars for all three magazines—the first time in department’s history.

  • Key member of Ehlert Powersports Online taskforce (Worldwide Web site).

  • Appointed to seven-member Management Team due to “business acumen.”

Motorcycle Safety Foundation | 1990–1995

An internationally renowned, nonprofit, traffic-safety organization, founded in 1973. Creates rider-training curricula and motorcyclist-licensing standards; educates general public about motorcyclist safety. $2 million annual budget. Full-time staff of 25.

Communications Director (1992–1995)

  • Oversaw production of all print and broadcast materials. Worked with enthusiast and mainstream media. Planned/analyzed $750,000 annual budget. (Came in under budget every year due to careful planning.) Managed staff of three.

  • Co-executive producer of two videos lauded by the safety community.

  • Meeting planner for 1993 and 1994 technical conferences, each attended by 300.

  • Created six-magazine media tour (mobile party) to celebrate MSF’s 20th anniversary.

  • Co-editor of 176-page motorcycle-safety book.

  • Liaison for online services and the Internet.
