Anne is more than a friend--in the vernacular of Southeast L.A., she is my "prima." Her mom and my mom have been best friends for about 52 years, and growing up, we were like cousins. Anne is one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. She gives me the best advice on great mysteries to read!

A few years ago Anne bought an adorable condo, and proceeded to make it utterly charming and utterly hers. She had a Roman shade made from the Waverly fabric at left, bottom. We conspired with Anne's mom, Carole, to "steal" a piece of fabric, so we could make placemats. Alas--we could no longer find that fabric! But we did discover a coordinating one. My mom, Yvonne, designed these placemats, and I sewed them. I loved that Yvonne picked out a fabric that we could cut into flower "medallions," all different, but all coordinating with the original fabric.

Be sure to scroll all the way down to see all six designs.

The Waverly "May Flowers" fabric that we could not find! Sometimes it's more fun to have to improvise (bottom).
